FBDi Environmental & Compliance Compass V2.7
February 17, 2017
The new edition of the FBDi Environmental and Compliance Compass is now available. By bundling the technical expertise of the Environment & Compliance Work Group, the FBDi Compass V2.7 offers valuable assistance to companies in all sectors spanning the entire supply chain regarding environmental directives relevant to the electronics industry. With REACh for instance, Industry and retailers must inform customers (both commercial and private) if products contain substances that give rise to particular concerns. The Ordinance on Sanctions (ChemSanktionsV) summarizes the existing regulations and supplements them with sanctions for violations of specific REACh obligations. Infringements of the restrictions as stipulated in REACh Annex XVII are now punishable criminal offences (incurring terms of imprisonment of up to 2 years or fines extending to the prohibition of sale). This makes it even more important to comply with the relevant legislation.
The FBDi points out that the market surveillance authorities regularly control the compliance of manufacturers, importers and distributors with product safety regulations:
The FBDi Compass V2.7 is applicable to all products – whether electrical or electronic. Thanks to its straightforward presentation, those not familiar with the new RoHS2 and WEEE2 or other EU regulations will find it easier to get to grips with them and meet their obligations. Companies no longer need to invest in dedicated environmental specialists and can avoid penalties at the same time. Other advantages of the new edition of the FBDi Compass are:
- Classification of products into RoHS II and WEEE II categories (in Germany according to the national register for waste electric equipment - Stiftung EAR)
- Assignment of ‘equipment’ according to definitions in these guidelines, i.e. grouping into relevant categories
- The most up-to-date CE classification requirements
- Updated and clearly structured flow charts show the user as easily as possible how to engage with the regulations to enable a conformity evaluation.
